Unbeatable Apple Pie

Ingredients: For the crust: – 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour – 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes – 1/2 teaspoon salt – 1 tablespoon granulated sugar

For the filling: – 6-7 medium-sized apples (a mix of sweet and tart varieties), peeled, cored, and sliced – 3/4 cup granulated sugar – 1/4 cup brown sugar – 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

– 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg – 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour – 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Prepare the Crust: – In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. – Add the cold, cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Preheat the Oven: – Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare the Filling: – In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice to prevent browning. – In a separate bowl, mix together the sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour. – Add the sugar mixture to the apples, tossing until the apples are evenly coated.

Roll out the Dough: – On a floured surface, roll out one disc of dough to fit the bottom of your pie dish. Place it in the dish.

Top with the Second Crust: – Roll out the second disc of dough and place it over the apple filling. Trim any excess dough and crimp the edges to seal the pie.

1. Vent the Pie:Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking. 2. Egg Wash and Sugar Sprinkle:Brush the top crust with the beaten egg and sprinkle with granulated sugar for a golden finish.

Bake: – Place the pie on a baking sheet to catch any drips and bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
