The Best Pecan Pie

Ingredients–  Single-crust pie: A store-bought crust and a homemade classic butter pie crust are both great options. Butter: Butter coats the pecans for tasting and adds richness to the base of the pecan pie filling.

Pecans: Pecans are the star of the show with their deeply toasted, nutty flavor and crunchy texture. Brown sugar: Brown sugar sweetens the pie filling and creates a deep, caramel-y flavor.

Maple syrup: We utilise maple syrup instead of corn syrup in this pecan pie. Maple syrup complements pecans and butter and adds flavour to the pie without being sweet. You can replace corn syrup for maple syrup.

Step 1: Make pie crust Heat the oven to 350°F. Roll the pie crust dough into a 1/8-inch circle on a lightly floured board. Place dough in a 9-inch pie pan. Trim the crust to 1/2 inch beyond the plate rim. Flute the edge. Refrigerate dough while making filling.

Step 2: Toast the nuts Use a Dutch oven or big saucepan to melt butter over medium heat. Add pecans. Stir frequently until fragrant and pecans start to brown, 4–5 minutes. Slotted spoon the pecans out, retaining the butter.



Step 3: Create the filling In pan, mix brown sugar, maple syrup, and salt with reserved butter. Boil the mixture. Lower heat and simmer two minutes. Remove pot from heat. Whisk some of the hot mixture into the eggs in a bowl.

Step 4: Assemble the pie Return the mixture to the pan, whisking constantly. Stir in the whiskey, if desired, and vanilla. Stir in the pecans. Pour the filling into the crust.

Step 5: Bake the pie Bake the pie until a knife or toothpick put in the centre comes out clean, 55–60 minutes. Avoid overbrowning by covering the pie crust edge with aluminium foil in the last 30 minutes

Cool on a wire rack to room temperature. Garnish with whipped cream and cinnamon. Put leftovers in fridge.
