‘Black National Anthem’ at Super Bowl sparks outrage

The Star Spangled Banner is played before all US sports. This year, the Super Bowl pregame celebrations will feature another unique song for the national anthem.

NFL source Adam Schefter reported that the NFL will perform “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” the “Black National Anthem.” Andra Day, a Grammy winner, will perform.

“Super Bowl LVIII lineup in Las Vegas: Reba McEntire with the National Anthem, Post Malone with ‘America The Beautiful,’ and Andra Day with ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing,'” Schefter tweeted on X, formerly Twitter.

The song, found in 42 Christian hymnals, references the historical Exodus from slavery to the “promised land.” It is essential to Black culture, especially since George Floyd's 2020 murder.

Conservatives are upset that Black people are celebrating their culture and that a song other than The Star Spangled Banner should be played before sporting events.
